Staying Motivated

article
"You don't have to like prospecting, you just have to do it." - David Sandler

Cars were made to drive.

Keep a good car garaged for too long and our car will struggle to start again.

Fish were made to swim. They'll flop around like crazy when we reel them in the boat, but release those same fish back into the water and we'll watch their brilliant genius swim again.

If you were made to sell, it's never going to be a good idea to stop selling.

You don't have to feel like selling, you just have to keep selling because your greatest brilliance, and satisfaction, is revealed when you do what you were made to do.

SELFISH AMBITION

If you're like I am, you've noticed how great salespeople will sometimes struggle to do what they do best.

Blind, selfish ambition will only take us so far down the road of success.

There has to be a great reason, a great motivation, to do what we do best. We won't show our brilliance for just anyone; there has to be a good reason for us to do what we do best.

We need a reason outside ourselves to stay focused and motivated because selfish ambition alone will only burn us out and leave us depressed.

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing. That's why we recommend it daily." - Zig Ziglar

MOTIVATION

Let's take another look at this important key to finding success because we all need motivation.

Money is not everything, actually it's not really anything, but it is how the world keeps score because it's so easy to count. Money is simply a representation of value.

Money moves toward value, and away from what's not valuable, at a rate of speed equal to the weight of the object's value.

How to use this rule of value to your advantage is taught in-depth at my private training events. Let's summarize how the rule of value works towards motivation by saying this...

If you want to create a large amount of motivation for yourself, or for somebody else, you have to create an equal amount of value on the other side to act as a propellant (i.e. jet fuel) to reach the goal.

VALUE

Simply put, motivation comes from reaching for value!

When you can't see the value, you can't reach. You have to see yourself getting where you're going to get there. If you don't know where you're going, and why you're going, any old destination will do.

When a salesperson is having trouble at home, they lose some of their ability to reach for value. Selfish ambition will only take you so far before burning out, but a warm home with a loving spouse is valuable.

A man will cross the ocean for his children, but you take away his kids, and you take away his desire to reach for value because nothing is more important than his children.

If you own the company, or you're a sales manager, give your salespeople a dream of what they can become, and show how to get there. Push away the clouds and make the vision clear.

Don't tell them it will be easy, remind them it will be worth it.

P.S. Maybe you're the company owner, or the sales manager, how do you motivate yourself when you don't feel like doing it? Where is the value that propels you toward your desire? How do you clear away the clouds so you can see where you're going?
