Dreaming Too Small

article
"If you can accomplish your dream on your own, your dream is too small." - T.D. Jakes

Hey! I get it. I really do...

Your dreams are exactly that...yours. Not everybody is excited about your dreams.

Finding a loyal group of people to help you reach for greatness can be difficult. Clearly, some people don't have the ability to get excited for somebody else because they're consumed with disappointments about their own failures. They struggle to support you because of envy & jealousy. This group can include parents, siblings, extended family, and even childhood friends.

If you are the average of the five closest people to you, achievement often comes at the price of letting go of the relationships holding you back from your dreams.

Every action has a consequence. You can't go left without missing out on going right. Likewise, you can't go up while people are holding you down. Yes, it's painful, maybe even lonely, but your dream can only be accomplished through the cooperative effort of people who believe in where you're going and are willing to support the decisions you make towards achievement.

This seems so silly, but I remember watching one of those daytime talk shows about a woman who had lost a bunch of weight and her husband was struggling to hold the relationship together. She achieved something wonderful, and in the process, she was changed into a different person with more confidence.

Her husband didn't know how to relate to a confident wife. That was the problem. That's why they were on the show. She changed. He didn't.

I guess he liked her better when she was fat and insecure!

When you change, the people around you are forced to change how they relate and interact with you. Some of them can't handle your progress because they liked you better when you achieved less.

Your job is to find the people who like you more when you dream more.

✌ Mike

P.S. Fair Warning: As you climb the steps of success, reaching for your dream, you'll find there's fewer people capable of supporting you the higher up you go.
