3 out of 5 Stars

article

It's extremely unusual for one of my clients to leave a 3 out of 5 Star Review.

So, decided to check it out. I wanted to see who was unhappy, wouldn't you? You can read the review for yourself here on the Roofing Salesman Facebook page.

First thing I want you to notice is he's not my customer.

I'm the guy who represents his frustration. I'm the guy he trusted enough to vent to. I'm the guy he was hoping to get a response from. I didn't ask for the average review, but anytime you find yourself out in front of people, you're a target.

If you don't like being attacked, take Elbert Hubbard's advice: "To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing."

We now live in an age where anybody can review you based on whatever criteria they want to use, and make it available for all your very best prospects to see.

If the neighbor down the street from the roof you're installing doesn't like where you parked your trailer, they can leave you a bad review. Yep! Happens all the time.

If you knocked on the wrong person's door, who woke up on the wrong side of the bad, "BAM!" they can bang you with a bad review.

You don't have to do business with somebody for them to leave you a review.

Some people might complain and say, "That's not fair!"

Well, life's not fair, is it?

The sooner you realize your business reputation is at the mercy of anybody, anytime, anywhere, in any mood, the quicker you'll be willing to take my advice on this subject.

STACKING GOOD REVIEWS

You can no longer wait on your good reviews to arrive uninvited.

The time has come for you to go out and get your good reviews. You have to start stacking good reviews now because you never know when you're going to get hit with an average, or a negative, review.

The sad fact of business is if people are generally happy with your work, they might mention it to a person here or somebody there, but if people are upset, they're going to tell as many people as they can get to listen.

Complainers love the internet.

Let me shout that again, "COMPLAINERS LOVE THE INTERNET!"

What do complainers do best?

Easy, complain!

You can no longer afford to leave your online reputation in the hands of the people most likely to leave a review because those people are usually the complainers...and you know exactly what kind of review they'll leave you.

EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER

If your customer has Facebook or a Gmail account, you can get a good review. No excuses. I did the simple review training live in my GAF Seminars a few years ago simply using the Google Maps app. It's a simple hack most people still don't know how to do.

My friend, Jim Miller Sr., attended one of the seminars. In a room full of his business peers, we had at least 10+ 5-Star reviews showing on Google for his roofing company in less than a few minutes.

Even if he gets hit with a crazy customer, or somebody who doesn't like the way he drives in traffic, his reviews are ready, he can take a hit, because he's been stacking good reviews.

ANYBODY CAN LEAVE A REVIEW

Remember earlier when I said we live in an age when anybody can leave a review?

Well, do you know "anybody"?

Do you know anybody who can speak to your character? Do you know anybody who knows how you do business? Do you know anybody you've done business with in the past? Do you know anybody?

Anybody can leave a review online these days.

✌ Mike

P.S. If you like the value I'm sharing, leave a 5-Star review for me on Facebook now. If you don't, complain.

P.P.S. Yelp! is great for reviews, but a little more difficult to make them stick. It's very important that you have your customer search Google for your company name + yelp (e.g. "Mike Coday Marketing Yelp"), scroll down to your Yelp! profile, click on your Yelp! company profile link, and then leave a review for you whiled logged in to their personal Yelp! account. If you do it any other way, (e.g. send people directly to your page), there's a higher chance Yelp! will hide the review.

P.P.P.S. My personal favorite review site is Google because the review stars show up in the search results when people are searching for the service you provide. My second favorite is Facebook because almost everybody has a Facebook account. A close third is Yelp! because they rank so high in the search engines.

P.P.P.P.S. Honorable mention for reviews goes to BBB, YP, HomeAdvisor, and Kudzu. Basically, if you can get a good review, you want Google first, Facebook second, and Yelp! third, but take any review you can get from any of these review sites.
